Altar Stone

A protected granite boulder at the intersection of Hämeenkatu and Ridasjärventie, behind the city information board.

The altar stone is a granite boulder transported by the Ice Age to Hyvinkää. It is located at the intersection of Hämeenkatu and Ridasjärventie, behind the city’s information board. Folklore associates the stone with a church service and Holy Communion held during the Finnish War; the details of the story have not been confirmed. The boulder was designated a protected site under the Nature Conservation Act on June 29, 1926. The city lists the stone in its catalog of public monuments, and it is also marked on the city’s walking and cycling route map. The stone can be viewed during a self-guided outdoor visit. No specific visiting hours have been announced for this site. For more information, please contact the Hyvinkää City General Switchboard and Registry Office.
