The Church of the Three Crosses, designed by Alvar Aalto, was completed in 1958 and consecrated on September 28, 1958. The church is a major tourist attraction. The church’s triple-cross motif can be seen in several places. The church’s only true work of art is a stained-glass window designed by Alvar Aalto and crafted by S. Wuorio, depicting a stylized crown of thorns. In place of an altarpiece, there are three white wooden crosses, whose shadows fall deliberately onto the white wall precisely during the service. The church complex also includes a 34-meter-tall, sculptural concrete bell tower and the parsonage building bordering the south courtyard.
