The Takala shelter is a wooded rest and overnight stop located in the northern part of Nuuksio National Park. The shelter has a fire pit and a dry toilet, and visitors may camp nearby in the designated camping area. To reach the site, take the Takala Trail from the Kattila parking areas. According to Metsähallitus’s current trail guide, the round-trip distance is 2.8 kilometers, and the hike takes about 1–2 hours. The trail is mostly wide and in good condition. As you descend into the stream valley, you’ll cross the Myllypuro stream via a bridge; before reaching the lean-to, you’ll cross another tributary and climb a fairly steep slope. The trail marker is an orange diamond with a black horizontal stripe. The return to Kattila follows the same trail, and from the shelter, you can also continue north to the Salmi recreation area. Kattilantie 424 is the parking address upon arrival: the map marker shows the forest near the shelter, not the parking area. The postal address for Kattilantie is Espoo, even though the destination and trail are located in Vihti. The trail is not maintained in winter, so assess the safety of snow, ice, and terrain before setting out. Bring drinking water, toilet paper, and a trash bag. The Kattila water source is near the start of the trail; there is no designated water source at the lean-to. Build a fire only in designated areas and check for wildfire warnings; during a warning, fires are not permitted at this open fire site. Keep pets on a leash and take your trash with you. Contact information is for Haltia’s general Nuuksio hiking information service, not for customer service on duty at the lean-to.
