Winter paddling adds a new dimension to the sport. You can paddle even in winter—in other words, practically anytime you can find open water to paddle on. Come join us to try out and practice winter paddling on Lake Saimaa. In this winter paddling course, we’ll dive right into the joys and challenges of winter paddling, with safety as our top priority.
You can participate in the course if you already have some kayaking experience and can handle the basics of kayaking on your own (efficient forward paddling, able to paddle trips of at least five kilometers, and steer a kayak).
The course is led by paddling instructors and winter paddlers Juho Paaso and Sanna Korhonen.
SCHEDULE
The course begins on Friday at 6:00 p.m. with a safety lecture on winter kayaking. On Saturday and Sunday, we’ll practice winter paddling skills, and at the end of the course, the most enthusiastic participants can take part in night paddling exercises. The course ends on Sunday at approximately 3:00 p.m.
During the course, you’ll learn the basics of winter paddling safety and proper gear preparation, both in theory and in practice.
We’ll send a more detailed course schedule and gear list to those who have registered.
COURSE FEE: €360 (incl. VAT)
If you bring your own paddling gear: €280 (Note: A drysuit is mandatory.) You can rent just a drysuit for the duration of the course for €60.
The course is limited to a maximum of 10 participants, so sign up quickly! The course will take place if there are at least six participants.
