Myllykoski is a rapids and recreational area along the Vantaa River in Nurmijärvi. You can watch the rapids flow from the banks and across the bridges. There used to be mills along the banks, and in the 1920s, Nurmijärvi’s first power plant was built there. On a self-guided day trip, you can walk the approximately two-kilometer Koskikara Nature Trail, where information signs provide details about the birds along the river. Siippoontie 771 is the address for accessing the area; the map pin indicates the vicinity of the rapids, not the location of the parking lot. The parking area is located on the left after the Nurmijärvi exit on the highway when driving toward Siippoo. The area features boardwalk trails and campfire sites. Firewood is generally delivered from spring through early winter, but availability is not guaranteed, and firewood delivery in midwinter may be prevented due to slippery conditions. Follow the local instructions for using the campfire sites. The approximately four-kilometer connecting route from Kirkonkylä, coming from the direction of Maaniitu, is a different route than the Koskikara loop; after Pikkukoski, it is not suitable for bicycles or strollers.
