Mount Tabor – Outdoor Areas of the Museum Complex
The forested cultural hill in Palojo: the exterior of the old museum buildings and the trails. Parking at Koulunkulmantie 34; it’s about a 250-meter climb up the hill.
Taaborinvuori is a wooded cultural and recreational area in Palojoe, Nurmijärvi. Aleksis Kivi gave this playground from his childhood a name familiar from the Bible. At the turn of the 1970s and 1980s, old buildings from various parts of the municipality were relocated to the area, and visitors can explore their exteriors by walking along the trails on the hill. According to the municipality, Taaborinvuori is a recreational area open to everyone; during organized events, admission requires an event ticket. Parking and bike racks are located at Koulunkulmantie 34, from where you’ll walk about 250 meters up an uneven sandy path. The hill has not been made fully accessible, and the trails feature tree roots and rocky outcrops. The summer 2026 public season for the museum buildings ended on August 30. This visit focuses on exploring the outdoor area and viewing the buildings from the outside. The adjacent Aleksis Kivi House is a separate museum with its own visiting hours.
